This photo says it all! USA 2, Israel 1. Here we go again making history by being the very first USA Men's Open Soccer Team to ever go to the finals in back to back Maccabiah's! We will now play Great Britain on Sunday evening at 7:30 pm at Givat Ram Stadium. We will be ready. But before we get there, let me tell you a story, one of great heart and absolute character. This team was down 0:1 in the first half to a very good Israeli National Team. We suffered some very difficult injuries in the first half and had to use 3 of our 6 allotted subs. Our defensive midfield player, Evin Nadaner suffered a groin injury and our starting outside left back, Danny Rubenstein, got kicked in the leg and suffered a leg injury and both had to be replaced. We are now at halftime and the locker room was quiet except for me. We were playing like we were their scrimmage dummies, just going through the motions and somewhat intimidated by their National Team Badge on their jersey. I told them we needed to step our intensity up and that they put their shoes on for the game, just like us, except we put ours on better. I told them we would make some tactical changes once we scored the tying goal and we would score. Then I walked out, we scored 4 minutes into the 2nd half to make the score 1:1. Alec Weiss finished a great ball from Stephen Elias. We made another tactical sub and brought on Lance Dotzman, who off a long throw in from Daniel Kohen, scored a beautiful header, but subsequently, he collided with their defender and broke his nose. He came off to stop the bleeding and we played short for about 5 or 6 minutes and he came back in, but it started bleeding again, so we had to sub him out. Now we have had to use 4 subs. That goal won the game for us as the score is now 2:1. We brought on 2 more subs for more injured players and we weathered the storm! The changes we made allowed us to play a more defensive game and look to counter attack out of it and we almost scored a 3rd goal in added on time for injuries. I can't begin to express how proud I am of this team for their tenacity of never giving up and determination of heart to win this game. they have truly bought into our philosophy and have executed it to perfection. They have listened and now we have our one shot at being a Forever Team and a team of legendary status and Glory! Like I mentioned earlier, we are playing Great Britain once again, as we were in the same group with them and lost to them 0:1 in the last minute of the game on a very poor defensive mistake. We know how they play, very direct and our style of play suits us very well against their direct play. This is going to be a great final and we are all excited to stamp our team into the history books one more time. Please keep us in your thoughts and hopefully, we will bring home Gold once again, just like 2013! I would be remiss not to say how great our medical staff of Kyle Southall, our ever present Trainer, Dr. Michael April and Dr. David Rubenstein have been. They have kept our guys treated daily and had them ready to play every game. We would never have been this successful without their constant help on and especially off the field and in the treatment room. I also would like to tell you about our team manager, Steve Graber, who has helped us in so many ways behind the scenes with issues we have had. He has been great to our team! Thank you Steve for all you do for us and all our teams here in Jerusalem. Now here are a few action photos taken during the game by Dr. Marc Backal, one of our team Doctors, with my camera. Thank you Marc for doing this, as it was truly a special game! So, we now have two days off to hopefull heal, rest and get ready for Sunday's game. So until then, I will say goodnight and thank all of you for following along on our incredible run into history. Coach G from Jerusalem
